The research in this branch is carried out in the following fields:

  1. Magnetism, Superconductivity & Colossal Magnetoresistance
  2. Prof. Mominul Huq, Dr. Md. Feroz Alam Khan and Dr. A. K. M. Akther Hossain are working in this group. Magnetic properties like magnetization, magnetic anisotropy and magnetostriction of hard and soft magnetic materials in the form of bulk, thin films and ribbons, are investigated.

    This group also investigates cuprate high Tc superconductors, and colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) in manganite perovskites. The CMR studies are performed in polycrystalline bulk and thick film samples. Couple of research projects are in progress in this field under the financial support of Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology and the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. This group has collaboration with IPPS, Sweden and the department of Physics, University of Hanoi, Vietnam.

  3. Polymer Physics
  4. Prof. Md. Abu Hashan Bhuiyan has been working in this area since 1985. Currently this group is investigating different types of polymer thin films prepared by plasma polymerization technique. Besides these, polymer blends and composites are also prepared by extrusion moulding machine and are being investigated for different applications.

  5. Crystal Growth

Dr. Jiban Podder and Dr. Md. Mostak Hossain work in this area. This group is engaged in studying structure and properties of crystals grown by solution growth technique. Dr. Jiban Podder also works on carbonization and graphitization of coal and organic compounds.
